Most network based IDS/IPS is becoming more and more useless each day as
attacks move away from the server type of RPC/worm/etc vulnerabilities and
continuing into client application and related vulnerabilities. One
interesting solution in the place that I have heard great things about from
an appliance plug and play approach is www.FireEye.com. -Marc
