My Sony TRV530 has the DV out, among a few other options. I have about 100 tapes, some from older, non-Hi-8 cameras, and so far it's working pretty good. Luckily I have cameras, one of which has a broken LCD viewer. So I often use it as just a player. I've had a couple tapes that play better in my other camera though, but it's only been 2 or 3. Once I get them imported and converted I'll figure out what to do with them. I'm leaning towards waiting for the Blu-Ray prices to come down some more since it appears it'll hold more data. I got the impression the OP needed to capture some analog sources, but if your sources are already digital that's certainly the best bet. -sc (on second read... are you talking about running the analog out of an 8mm camera thru a second DV cam to do the transcoding? I know some cams can do that...) My camera has DV output and use a DV to Firewire connection. Just turning on the camera brings up an "import video" utility that seems to work fine. I end up converting the AVI to mpg with Prism. The Canopus firewire capture devices are a bit more, but have been solid for us. -sc From: Sam Cayze [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 6:31 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Maybe OT: Capture Video/Audio from RCA to computer (preferably USB) I have had good luck with these http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/prods_usb.html Then just use Windows DVD maker or Movie Maker. I recently used those to turn about 10 old VHS home videos into DVD. Those are actually pretty impressive products. Simple, but easy. Advanced editing, no... but I didn't want/need anything advanced. -Sam From: Reimer, Mark [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 4:48 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Maybe OT: Capture Video/Audio from RCA to computer (preferably USB) HI folks, Looking to capture video from RCA jacks to computer (put VHS to DVD, plus other uses). I've come across a few products that have simple hardware to "convert" RCA Jacks video/audio to USB, using accompanying software. These units are generally $40 - $60 (Cdn). I was wondering if anybody has used something like this and can recommend one over the other? Thanks.
