As a family gift this past Xmas, I bought us an HP and it's been used tons already. Great for those times when something strikes you to look up on WWW, etc. Boots up in 30 secs (upgraded from Win7 Home to Win7 Pro, 2GB RAM) and am starting to love the scrolling function built into the touch pad. I thought I'd hate the small screen and keyboard but they're not bad. The convenience certainly outweighs any downfalls, compared to a desktop/bulky laptop. Both want to browse the Internet, use Microsoft Office, play iTunes, and get eMail. The first one wants a laptop because she is writing a book and wants to write whenever it hits her. She has no kids and does not play CD games or Internet games. The other has a teenage daughter and wants to be able to download pictures and music along with the above stated things. What are some good pc/laptops that they might be able to afford?
