You could also look at other POP/IMAP/SMTP servers that support SyncML. Then
you install a SyncML client on your smartphones (usually Funambol) to do the
syncing.

Some I've looked at include MailEnable and SmarterMail. Kerio does it via
ActiveSync with an ActiveSync Client for Blackberry; MailEnable and
SmarterMail can do it over ActiveSync for a fee or SyncML out of the box.
