I border on a rural area that now mostly contains huge homes on huge lots built by people who don’t want neighbors (urban sprawl). These folks can rationalize buying giant lots, building long driveways, drilling wells, buying snowplows and putting 2x the normal mileage on their vehicles. But if a carrier says “we need $3,000 to extend our plant to your house” the carrier is evil and the government needs to do something (such as getting everyone else to pay for their lifestyle choice).

Its what government does. I do not believe by any stretch that anyone advocating for socialism.
