Last I looked at Dell (admittedly a few years ago):

(1) Dell switches were rebadged SMC models.
(2) ProCurve works and keeps on working.
(3) ProCruve tech support knows what they are doing, and are willing
and eager to help.
(4) ProCurve will offer to overnight a replacement switch if they even
suspect something is wrong.
(5) ProCurve has better UI.
(6) ProCurve has much better documentation.
(7) ProCurve has better management features.

In my experience, network equipment tends to be in place a lot
longer than 5 years, but my experience is with small (< 150 nodes)
organizations that usually keep most stuff longer.
