Never used Dell switches, I've had absolutely no reason to "switch" from my beloved Procurves. Bought a 4000 unit ten years back and it still runs the backbone here. I'm thinking of upgrading that bad boy at some point soon, but it works so well, I'd hate to part with it. Maybe it will find a new home in my basement. On another note, why not go with the 2900 series and stack them? Perhaps they are cheaper?
