Use ZIX. If the person your are emailing is not in their directory,
they get a basic email with a link to login to a portal site and view
the email encrypted. If they are in the ZIX network, then it goes
straight through because you are encrypted end to end.

There are lots of resellers out there. Averages between 75 and 90 a
user per year that are sending email. It costs nothing for the people
you are sending email.

We have a client using it to send statements, appointment reminders,
test results, all opt'in of course.

Would that be acceptable for the patient?

Subject: HIPAA Question

Guys, I have a quick HIPAA question. We work with people infected with
HIV. A patient that lives out of state is asking us to email him info
about his viral load. Any suggestions for how to email that info or get
that info to him somehow? If the email content doesn't contain
identifying info, is it ok?

It would be but we don't have anything like that setup at the moment.
Perhaps with the implementation of the EHR we may have that ability.
