To use all the Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 domain-level
features without upgrading your entire Windows Server 2003 forest to
Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, raise only the domain
functional level to Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Before you raise the domain functional level, you must upgrade all Windows
Server 2003–based domain controllers in that domain to Windows Server 2008
or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Subject: 2008 DC question

2003 forest with 1 subdomain. Can you upgrade the subdomain DC's to 2008
while leaving the root DC's at 2003? (I'm guessing yes but not
recommended).

This subdomain has a one-way trust with another 2003 forest, are there
caveats with that trust to upgrading the subdomain to 2008? (I'm guessing
no).

Any/all advice/links welcome.

Dave
