I found another batchfile on an XP machine. Simple, 2-line batch file:

Net use /del LPT2

Net use LPT2 \\computername\printershare
<file:///\\computername\printershare>

And you *don't* have to create the actual printer in Windows. For some
strange reason, Vista modifies the settings on the remote computer instead
of using "local" settings. I don't believe XP ever did that.

Ok. I got it working, but why is Vista such a PITA to print on a different
port locally than the physical port on the computer the remote printer is
connected to?

I'm having a problem with a program that wants to print to LPT2 on our Vista
machine. The Vista machine is a replacement for an XP machine that just wore
out. The XP machine used to have LPT2 mapped to LPT1 on another XP machine
and I tried re-doing the mapping in Vista, and it *says* it's working, but
when I try to print from the application, it shows an error in the printer
pool. L

How do I fix this?
