The application never installed due to the incompatibiltiy issue so nothing to
remove from add remove programs. The registry (Win 7 side) though is littered
with the app like it was installed. This is why I thought that possibly the
registry is shared. I am going to attempt the registry whack on Friday when the
user is gone I'll post the reults after...

Thanks, Robert

Getting in a bit late but did you uninstall app(1) from the Add and Remove
Programs first? I know it may be you did but you were not clear on that. I am
referring to the Windows 7 side not the virtual machine side.

Yes sir.

It never hurts to export the keys to a file first in case you get a little too
aggressive or grab the wrong key.

Yes I am talking about the Win XP mode. So it would be relatively safe to whack
all the registry entries I find for this particular app in the Win 7 registry?
Sorry I just don’t want to rebuild machine if I don’t have to…

If you are talking “Windows XP Mode” as implemented as a Virtual PC virtual
machine from MS, then no… the registries are not shared.

Subject: Win 7 and Virtual XP registry

Hi all,

Need some help….and question. Does Win 7 Pro and windows XP virtual mode share
the same registry? I have an app(1) that I tried installing on the Win 7 side
but ended up not being Win 7 compatible so I installed it on the Win XP Virtual
side and it works great. We are having a problem with another app(2) on the win
7 side and I think it has to do with the app(1) that couldn’t be installed on
the win 7 side so I’d like to clean up the registry but don’t want to impact
the win xp side. Is there a part of the registry dedicated to the Win Xp
virtual side?

Thanks, Robert
