For Cisco as one other poster pointed out software both updates that what you can download and use are part of the equation. I know that Cisco hardware rarely fails but the once a year update/upgrade along with any security patches for the software alone may be worth the cost. Unlike some companys that many complain about Cisco rarely offers security updates for free.
