We don't actually care to much if Virtual Center fails. It's faster just to rebuild it and add the groups back in the admin permission tree then to worry about restoring it. Same with the VMware ESX hosts. All you lose with VI Center is ease of client connectivity and VMotion. Both you can generally live with for an hour or two.
