I like that. automatic backup on login/logout. Then all I have to do is teach (i.e. force) my users to log in/out at the beginning of every shift!

I also redirect Start Menu and Desktop to a shared folder that contains all the shortcuts that users ever need to use, but controls access to them via AD security groups that grant Read access to the shortcuts relevant to the group. This means that they can't clutter up their desktop with folders and huge files - this may or may not be adequate for your needs. There's also the Application Data and Local Application Data folders to think about, but this is where it can get messy. The issue you are going to have is with things like Outlook signatures, Office Quick Access Toolbars, Favorites menus in IE, and.NK2 files in Outlook (the ones that populate the email addresses automatically for you). if you want these to follow people around or be backed up, you may need to dig a little deeper into what needs to be redirected. You don't particularly have to use redirection - Group Policy Preferences can now do file, folder and registry actions when you log in or out, based on a variety of triggers. I'm basically wanting to set something up so that when a user logs in, their system information is duplicated on the network, in case of a system crash, etc. I don't want to set up a terminal server that they log into as that sounds like a LOT more work than I need for this project. Probably not, as it's available an add-on for XenApp, but I haven't honestly tried to see if it would install on a standard RDS system. I might give it a try if I get a minute. Schools tend to have pretty homogonized environments. Also, they tend to move from place to place (teachers do, too). Though, you can still achieve a lot by folder redirection for backing up data, having personalized settings follow students and more importantly roaming teachers can be extremely useful. Between corruption, security permissions getting fscked, stupid inconsistent quotas on the profiles resulting in either not being able to shut down the PC, or the profile not fully copying to the server causing all deleted items to be copied down again when the user next logs in. Lots of fun, there is a lot to be said for mandatory profiles. If it was up to me I'd probably also do something like DeepFreeze/SteadyState the PCs. I'm looking at setting up roaming profiles (eventually, when I get a storage appliance to handle the disk space requirements) for desktop D/R (in case of a virus getting in and trashing the PC or something.) Also, can you exclude things like "My Music" and "My Pictures" from roaming profiles? I'd rather *not* be backing up people's personal files.
