No, don't go to the San Diego Zoo. If you're going to be in the San Diego area, go the the WIld Animal Park instead. It's run by the San Diego Zoo, but the animals are in very large open spaces and (mostly) live together. They do keep the lions out of the gazelle areas for obvious reasons.
