From what I understand you bought a Cadillac for a mini cooper you need.
Since you are using a Sidewinder router / firewall, you probably need a plain
adsl bridged modem.
Sidewinder will probably deal with PPPoE and supply the credentials for BT.
So if you want to use the Cisco, you have to find a way to set it up as a 1483
Bridged IP VC-mux
Or better yet buy a 30 pound adsl router that can easily do the job.

Cheers

Subject: My brain is getting old...

All,

Our UK office has acquired a new Cisco 857 to replace a Netgear router
for their DSL line.

I've got it hooked up via a console cable to a server in the UK
office, so I'm in the box, and can provide current config if needed.

I haven't dealt with a Cisco box in years, and never with one that
does PPP over ATM, so I'm floundering a bit.

I need it to do the following:

The ADSL link hands out addresses via DHCP, but we've got a /29 to use
from BT for our firewall. I've got the PPP login and password, and the
VC paramaters (VPI=0, VCI=38)

The router should provide no firewalling, and no NAT - the Sidewinder
I have on site does of that.

I've been looking at various configurations - the manual (which seems
to have an error in it, regarding MTU size), web pages all over the
place, but am just fogging my brain with them. Can anyone point me to
a config that does that?

Thanks,

Kurt
