screen specs and resolution for laptops are the suck now.  i actually 
used a thinkpad t40 until 3 months ago.  started searching for a 
replacement and was amazed at the degradation of quality screens in the 
laptop market.  the bulk of them come with shiny screens.  and most are 
widescreen now.  there are practically no high res, small screens.  high 
res is now considered 1440x900 and they are scarce.

i went for a thinkpad T410 that i am happy with it now.  i7, 4 gigs in 
one slot and my battery life (9cell) is 4 to 5 hours with regular use.
