My granny bought an oven in 1939 made of blue enamel. When she came to move house in 1988, it took five guys to get it out of the door, it was that heavy. It lasted for another eleven years before it developed its first (and only) fault, when it stopped working completely after sixty years in service. This in addition to having survived several near misses from German bombers early in its career.
Compare that to today's trashy white goods, which are pre-programmed to develop faults as soon as the warranty/extended warranty runs out.
