But you do have to upgrade to 7 Ultimate. A consumer gotcha for users of Vista Ultimate (with all of its planned shiny features that never materialized) was that to upgrade to 7 you could not upgrade to any version of 7 but Ultimate. My mother in law had trouble with this as the Dell outlet computer we bought for her came loaded with Vista Ultimate.
I assume this restriction will be the case for future OS upgrades as well. It may or may not be relevant, but it is something that might bubble up in some cases.
