The issue here is rebuild time and affected performance. I don't think regular perfomance will matter.

In it is an LSI raid card with battery backup. As it has the battery we have enabled write caching. The OS will be put on a mirrored pair of sas 15k drives and then there will be a lump of sata based raid 5 storage. The LSI card has two ports, one will be used for the system drives, one for the sata storage. The question has arisen here whether we should separate the system drives and the sata drives and put them each on their own raid cards to increase throughput. This also increases the cost by at least £500 ($800) for an additional raid card and battery. My question is, in the real world, what kind of increase in throughput are we going to see? If it takes the entire thing to a new level of uber wonderment then it may be worth finding the cash for this project from somewhere else. However if it's margin then, for the additional cost and complexity, I think the cash can be used elsewhere. What your thoughts and experience ?
