Define cheap? My $499 home system supports RAID1 out of the box, so the cost to implement RAID1 was less than $150 for a pair of SATA drives. The $75 for the 2nd drive will save me the better part of a days work reloading an OS, reinstalling programs, settings and other specific-to-me items it's worth it. Considering I charge my clients $80/hr I spent less than an hour's income to save me about 5 hours of work. Even if using Server 2008 / Win7 -style full system restore, I can swap a drive faster than I can restore 300GB of data.
