Indeed--we (consumers) win from competition. I own stock in Apple, and love a lot of things about the iPhone. But Apple gives no hardware choice, and I really need a hardware keyboard.
So next I looked at Android... Lots more hardware choices, but then I learned about fragmentation. I couldn't keep all of the different versions of Android straight, and it seemed like every phone ran a different one. Even if I bought a phone with the latest version, what would happen the next time an update was released? The odds were good that I couldn't count on getting it on my phone for months, if at all. And that led me to WP7. More hardware choices like Android, but more OS consistency like iPhone. Bingo!
