"Broiling" sounds like boiling too much .. or getting embroilled in something. Probably heard the word for the first time in my life about 10 years ago and I've grown up hopping all around the world as a child (geologist father to blame!). I think the only reason I ever came across the word was looking up something in Google. Followed by trying to translate American back into English to find out what the heck they were on about! I challenge you to find a restaurant in the world that will understand what you mean if you ask for "broiled" food anywhere other than the USA.
