Yes, in this case <someapp> is HP and the app is called Quality Center. There 
is a QCExplorer app that can be installed on an RDS server or local that 
bypasses the IE settings needs.

I was attempting to get my laptop ready for tomorrow's team meeting and I could 
not get <someapp> to work with IE8 or IE9RC.  I found the steps below on a and 
they worked for both IE8 and IE9RC.

"Internet Explorer 8 is not officially supported but there is a workaround that 
works very well.

1. Start Internet Explorer and click on Tools -> Internet Options
2. In the Advanced tab, in the settings pane under Security, un-check "Enable 
memory protection to help mitigate online attacks".
3. Restart Internet Explorer.
4. Start Quality Center.
5. Click on Tools and click on/check "Compatibility View".
6. Allow the app to complete its installation.
7. You may now log on to and use the app"
