  It's also been pointed out that HTML forms (pre-AJAX) are eerily
similar to the way the classic IBM 3270 terminal system works.  You
have a single large central computer optimized for processing.  That's
where all the data lives, but there's no user display facilities.
Instead, data is sent in blocks to the terminal, which processes and
renders the display locally.  The user fills in all the fields and
submits the form.  Only then is the form data sent back to the central
computer, as a single record-oriented transaction.

  The "cloud" design pattern certainly has its uses.  Whether it's
right for any given need depends on the situation.
