They now wrap it into consumerization.

So, what's the difference between "cloud" and "outsourcing" then?

Cheers
Ken

You could be right. That's a tough one.

But, that may also fall under the "hybrid" cloud category. You're using the
cloud highway to get to your data stored offsite. You're still outsourcing
"something" even if you own the equipment (bandwidth, space).

The cloud is many things. Computing, storage, data retention, etc. Vendors
are sticking the word "cloud" in front of everything and effectively making
it a cloud offering.

Hmm - really?

I thought "cloud computing" or "cloud services" was more about buying a
utility service, or a certain amount of CPU, and how it was delivered is
transparent to you. It's up to the vendor to make it work somehow.

That seems completely different to paying for a co-lo server, where you are
a buying a specific piece of kit and it's up to you to ensure that you sized
it correctly, manage it correctly and if not, you it's entirely up to you to
fix it/buy something else.

Cheers
Ken

"cloud" is just a new name for any off-site computing services.
Ever dial into an IBM mainframe at 110 baud from an ASR-33 teletype for
remote job entry? That was the cloud, too.
