Monitoring. You get their "System Management Homepage" on port 2381, which shows you hardware status. I ran a 10 node VMware ESX 3.5 cluster for 3 years on HP hardware, and now have a 6 node ESX 4.1 cluster, on newer HP hardware, for under a year. Updating those management agents was a pain, but it's because of a bug in the installation script. What it does is try to uninstall the existing earlier version, and does it wrong (by trying to uninstall something that was already superceded by something else that was upgraded, I think). So what you have to do is manually finish uninstalling (basically, a series of "rpm -e" commands, and then also remove any "bulletins" in the esxupdate databse (which effectively seem to be the same thing as RPMs, from what I can tell), by using the "esxupdate remove" command.
