[Nubus-pmac-users] CD Drive Upgrade a No Go

Loosk like I learned the hard way, but it doesn't look like I will be able to upgrade my CD-ROM drive with my current model.  A website I came across led me to believe that all the 1400 Drives could be upgraded (including the 6x, 8x, and 12x), but this looks to not be true.  I have an  8x and purchased through Ebay a teac 8x CD-RW drive to do the upgrade.  As it turns out, my drive doesn't have to correct adaptor.

Does anyone know how I could do this with my current drive.  Looks like if I want the 12x drive, I will have to spend $30 on ebay to buy one whereas the teac only cost me $10.  Wouldn't I only need the connector itself?  Is there anywhere I could buy one of these.

I was hoping to get a CD-RW in this thing to be able to burn to data discs when need be.  Once I do get this up and running, what burning apps would be rocommended?
