Hi Marcel,
now tell me: What system are you trying to install and what kernel
image with installer ramdisk are you using?
Did you try my latest one from my webspace?
You can get it here;

Hi,
I have forgotten to mention it.
Now, the powerbook has 60 Mb Ram, 10 Gb HD, PCMCIA Modem (Never
configured),
and SMC2632W (never configured).
So, i also tried YELLOWDOG, when i had only 16 Mb RAM, the installer
said
too less memory, now, with 60 Mb, does not run :-).
I am thinking it could be the memory (2 x 24 Mb card) with some bad
funtion.
Thanks,
Marcel.

Hi Marcel,
did you try to install Sarge with the new kernels or did you try the
same old kernels with Debian Woody installer?
The new Sarge installer kernels will not work because just the
installer RAM disk needs 16 MB.
I could prepare a Woody installer kernel for you - but 16 MB is much
too low for anything; an X server will never really work because you'd
have to wait half an hour or so until a window manager is loaded.
With 16 MB RAM you could only use the PB as a router or something like
that. In order to use applications you should have at least 32 MB.
The minimum RAM that Sarge will be able to run on is 24 MB if I
remember correctly.

Hi,
In the pass, when i installed debian woody on my powerbook
1400/117/16
Mb
ram, i had MAC OS 8.6 installed, so, the MkLinux Booter with the
MachKernel-2.4.27-040811 and MachKernel-debian-woody-021029 run OK,
but, i
had the problem that it was not possible to configure the Xserver.
Now, i tried to do the same but the MkLinux FREEZE and linux does not
boot,
have you some information?
I am thinking that i will need to re-install MAC OS 8.6 to get
MkLinux
working Ok, or you know about other solution using MAC OS 9.1?
Thanks Again,
Marcel Pierson.

If you got Debian to boot (besides X) it might have been just a
matter
of a proper configuration file.
Try this one (it usually resides in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4).
It is currently set to a german keyboard layout and 15bit color
depth,
which requires an appropriate setting in MacOS ("Thousands of
colors"
I
guess).
