For what it's worth, I'm using progressFraction calls in a plugin as well, and it seems like Nuke will wait some set period of time after making the first engine call before actually displaying the progress bar (a la the execution of a Tracker). So if your operator is fairly fast, it might not be hitting the appropriate Nuke-internal criteria to force the progress bar to even be raised.

Not sure if this would be considered a bug or a feature (my inclination would be the former), but there it is.
