Thanks John. Interesting approach using a custom plugin to pass through. I'll 
look into that. It seems like that is functionality that I lack often
(pick a point for world position mattes, pick a point to sample for reads or 
mattes or whatever etc. etc. etc.)

Not directly unless Nuke 8 has finally given access to the mouse events.

At one studio we had an engineer make a custom plugin that could be used to 
pass mouse events from the NDK over to Python through the use of a node, but it 
was always a little buggy from time to time.  Worked for the most part though.
