actually i'm pretty confident that there will be some xml
export option from FCPX in the not too distant future, so i
hope all your work was not in vain :).
(i guess they need to figure out how to deal with track
assignments in the rubber timeline first).

the really stupid thing is that they sure scared off a lot
of people with their bad communication (FCP Server killed,
DVD Studio killed etc), so even if they restore similar
functionality with add-ons/updates, people will be hesitant
to trust them again. (and rightfully so, see shake)

but more to the point:
one very surprising thing to me is that we finally have a
nearly working solution for exporting *image sequences* from
FCPX! ;) i mean, there aren't many advanced option
checkboxes (yet), but there's EXR, DPX, TIF, PNG, PDS and
even IFF.

i've done some quick tests and while they dont keep super
whites (ie over 100% values), they are 16bit (except for iff
which for some reason is only 8bit) and seem to hold all the
10bit of data from a prores timeline (sorry, storyline) --
which is something i couldnt do in the old FCP (i suspect
because QT handled all the conversions?)

the exr is in a some linear space, the dpx in some kind of
log space and the tif/png/psd in some sRGB space.. i say
"some" because i had slight brightness shifts with all of
them - except iff which matched the round trip dead on :).

so while the fully color managed claim seems still dodgy (or
my testing), it really appears that we start to see the
benefits of the new architecture (or they just used the old
shake libraries, the metadata in the dpx file reads:
dpx, 10bit fixed, AppleComputers.libcineon (c 2006-2007) )

so i have mixed feelings: i really liked the old FCP and the
new version doesn't seem to be designed for my needs, but on
the other hand with smoke for mac, resolve 8 being just
released and scratch coming over, it seems to me that we
have actually getting some very nice options for finishing
(who needs editing anyway ;)

uh, sorry for the long offtopic post.. off to bed
++ chris
