We fixed this in Nuke 6.1 so readGeo properly sees point clouds. You only have to change the "object type" from "Mesh" to "Point Cloud". If this doesn't work then something may be broken and you should send the fbx into support(pending it is fbx 2010 or earlier).
It also works the other way around.
