If you set the viewer lut to rec709, you're looking at footage that may be displayed as rec709, but as your monitor is likely an sRGB, so it will apply another colour conversion and it won't look like what it would look like on a rec709 screen.

There is a difference between the actual colour values of the pixels and what you see on the screen.
