Yes, DPX files are only really useful if their data is encoded with some flavor 
of a log function, as they are still an integer format.

As far as going directly from log DPX to DNxHD MOV... that could be tricky. Can 
you provide any information about the environment you’re in and the tools you 
have available? How were you planning to make the MOVs in the first place?

But I am trying to avoid rendering another frame set just for QT's and would 
like to see what can be done using dpx's.

If I were to render dpx's- how would I render them out? In log space?
