It does seem like it would help to be able to create and edit write nodes,
but not execute them from the GUI.

I was a little miffed at the lack of paint tools - like, a grade node?
 That even crosses over into boosting contrast to sweeten plates for
tracking purposes.  seems like a must-have.

I understand the protectivism though.

I suppose having to text edit hack a couple of nodes to make them happy
won't hurt.  It's pretty straightforward as long as you don't have to
animate values.
