Alex, Just use the zdepth output from the ScanlineRender and add a DeepToImage. This should work acceptably if you have no overlapping objects so you will need to have a separate ScanlineRender node for each such instance and DeepMerge downstream. Effectively you're getting one front value of deep data but it's still useful because the AA and motion blur will have a deep value that will merge more nicely with other deep images.
