On a test machine I had some issues with unity - OpenGL was sometimes very laggy. After logging into xfce, eveything worked as expected. But this is a while ago. The nvidia driver improved a lot in the last month. I would probably add the nvidia ppa (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates) and install a 304 driver and give it a try although 319 is out there already. Hope that helps. Johannes
