Thanks everybody for your input.
I initially thought I'd just put together another high powered linux box
but then thought about the ol' quicktime beast and thought that it may
pay off to have an equally grunty mac in the office instead to also run
Final Cut or Avid as needed.
I don't like paying Apple prices but depending on how much time you save
for set up and config, it sometimes pays off I think.
Considering the rumors of the Mac Pros being EOL I am still very
hesitant and may end up with another linux box instead after all.
I might just wait a little bit longer and see what happens.
Thanks again Howard, Feli, Randy and Nathan!
Cheers,
frank

I definitely wouldn't switch from Linux if that's what you're already
running. We did an OS comparison on a trashcan, and also against Linux
on a (slightly older) Dell Precision workstation, and it wasn't even
close.
You will always pay to run things on OSX, and I don't just mean
financially... It just isn't a performant operating system.

Hi everybody,
I am playing with the idea of buying a mac pro to run Nuke/Hiero.
I have a mixed linux/osx environment but my main (grunty)
workstations so far have been linux.
Any anecdoets/advise that might be interesting here?
I noticed that it's been a long time since the last mac pro came
out, not sure what to make of that.
Does the gpu(s) work ok with Nuke? Any downsides other than the
price tag?
Cheers,
frank
