It is currently noted after the "Build and Install NuPIC" section on the getting started page, which is easy to be ignored.
It might be better to make this point clear in the .bashrc file. I suggest the following change # Installation path *(must be different from the repo path)* export NTA=$HOME/nta/eng # Target source/repo path. Defaults to $PWD export NUPIC=/path/to/repo # Convenience variable for temporary build files export BUILDDIR=/tmp/ntabuild # Number of jobs to run in parallel (optional) export MK_JOBS=3 ...
