Hello NuPIC,

I will be sending weekly updates about the HTM Challenge to the NuPIC
community. This is the first one.

7 days since launch
42 days until submissions close
33 registered participants [1]
3 projects submitted
2 projects approved [2]

Updates:

Based upon feedback from the community, who have been having trouble
getting NuPIC installed on common systems, I have been working on
several tutorial videos about installing and compiling on OS X and
Linux [3]. A survey I sent out [4] shows that there are still some
barriers to installation for some people, and I am working to resolve
them on GitHub and the mailing lists.

Another common request is for an example of NuPIC handling
multivariate input for anomaly detection or prediction of one field.
While Numenta has moved away from this in our product examples, there
is still much interest in it because it seems like such a valuable
use-case for HTM. We either need to provide rationale for why we do
not suggest using multivariate input, or a code example of how it can
be set up (with a realistic data set).
