I must retract my last statement.  There are indeed entries in the syslog, but 
I don't know if it was when I had the NUT Monitor gui running.   I will 
experiment and let you know.

Hopefully someone else on the list can help with the NUT Monitor GUI part - I 
mostly run NUT on servers, so when I SSH in, the message shows up on that 
terminal.

Does the wall command work on its own?

Also, I assume that the upsmon binary is running, and if you changed 
upsmon.conf, you have restarted since that change.
