Hi Tomas
Thanks for the offer of the fixed udev rules. Please do send - with any
instructions I might need to install it. I'll let you know how it goes.
It appears that my email address is published on this thread anyway.
BTW: You may have followed this thread from when I was trying to get it
going on the serial port - and that wasn't working either. Out of
interest - I checked the permissions on the serial port ttys0 - and they
did appear to be set as you said the USB port should. I assume that
means the serial port problem I had was something different. I probably
should try launching the serial driver (BelkinUnv) in debug mode to see
if I can find out what the problem is there. If I find anything - I will
also let you know.
Best regards and many thanks.
Richard.

Hi Tomas and Arjen
Thanks for your very expert assistance....
We are definitely getting close to solving this. Maybe there is a
packaging problem - or maybe there is a problem somewhere else in my
system.
If I track down the ups usb port - and change the permissions of the
/dev/bus/usb/xxx/yyy as suggested by Tomas - everything works fine -
as far as I can tell so far at least.
I have a fixed udev rules file (I can send it to you off-list) that
should fix the problem. Unfortunately I don't have a RHEL-5 system
with usb UPS anywhere around, so it may take some time for me to test
it. After I do so I'll push an updated package to EPEL.
As for the removal of nut from RHEL: I don't know anything else about
the decision than you do.
Regards.
