ups.vendorid: 10af

/etc/nut/ups.conf
[upsname]
        driver = usbhid-ups
        port = auto
        vendorid = 10af

Remove the 'vendorid' line. It isn't needed.

        desc = "Server UPS"

In /var/log/daemon and also the cgi web interface it thinks it is
running on battery though!

That's what 'ups.status' is telling too, so I'm not surprised about that. Are you absolutely sure you plugged the device in a live outlet? If you are, running

    /path/to/usbhid-ups -DDD -a upsname

might give us something to work with. Make sure you stop all drivers before running this.

Best regards, Arjen
