I'm sorry that Sourceforge's mail archive's are unsatisfactory. Nutch itself is not an appropriate tool for mail archives: it's a web search engine, not a mail search engine. Nor does the Nutch organization currently have resources to run its own mail archives and search.

However, I have requested that the Nutch mailing lists be added to a couple of public mailing list archives, namely, http://www.mail-archive.com/ and http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/. Nutch lists should show up on these soon. Once things are archived at sites like these, then they can be searched with web search engines, with something like, e.g.:

http://www.google.com/search?q=+site%3Awww.mail-archive.com+lucene-dev

Except using 'nutch-developers' instead of 'lucene-dev'.

Cheers,

Doug

Not only is searching by hand through the mail archives painful, it is something a group of people who write search programs should not have to do.

Has anyone else given any thought to using Nutch to index a mail archive? At the University of Michigan we have batted this idea around, but haven't had the time to implement anything.

Browsing the archives at SF is painful. Is there another archive in mbox or other downloadable format?
