This was my feeling too. Too much attacking of DHH and too much tone policing (what DHH says is OK, but he swears and that is wrong).
There may be a wider point being made about celebrity in the ruby communities, but I doubt it. You don't say "Don't idolise DHH, idolise this nice person" if it's about celebrity. I may be missing something but it makes me a bit sad that everyone thinks the talk is somehow great. If I were DHH and I heard this - I'd be utterly gutted. Also - The "Big letters that just say what I'm saying" presentation was just weird. If you don't need slides - Don't use slides.
