Hello Everyone,
Well, the day I (and I'm sure others) have been waiting for after months of
research has finally paid off. I have successfully setup standalone repeating with 2
RG-1000s and a $99 firmware upgrade. Yes, standalone repeating! :-) If you are
interested in how I did this, continue reading. Total cost of my standalone repeating
setup, $237=$69*2+$99.
In summary, what the KarlNet firmware does is allow one of the RG-1000s to act
as a DHCP client on the wireless interface and a DHCP Server on the Ethernet
interface. Then connected via cross-over cable (eliminates the need for a hub) is the
2nd RG-1000 (standard firmware) which is acting like a normal AP, except bridging all
traffic. Now, all I need is to make it run off batteries or solar to make it truly
portable.
I'll try to post something on the website explaining this as well.
Enjoy,
-Ben
