Benny Serbin posted a message on getting an RG-1000 working successfully as a client with the Karlnet software. I just wanted to add that it also works with the cheaper ($80) SEC-4500, it only allows 8 clients, but for most this isn't a big restriction.
The other important thing about the Karlnet software is that it supports PRISM 2 and 2.5 cards. This means you can either replace the ORiNOCO Silver card with a high power card, like the 200mW Industrial Wireless cards available from Michael at personal telco for about $70. Or if you don't need a good radio for your link you can use one of those $30 PRISM cards you can find on e-bay and use the ORiNOCO card for something more useful. You should also know that it is possible to make a client out of the RG-1000 using Linux for free, but it does require a computer on the network to host the kernel and utilities for it using NFS. And if you have Airport or one of several branded AP's containing a 486 inside, you can use Karlnet software.
