RG-1100
- does not have a modem (never had one)
- has a gold card (so can do 128 WEP)
- is just an AP, so can only do bridging AFAIK; however can use ABS version
1, RG-1000 and AP-500 firmware

RG-1000
- does have a modem
- only has a silver card (but this can be replaced with a gold card)
- is a router, can create PPPoE connections with later versions of firmware
(1.58 onwards?) etc

The definitive page on firmware swapping is of course

I know the 1000 has the modem and pppoe built in in case you ever have to
use it as a dialup point to connect a bunch of clients to an ISP.
Not sure if the 1100 still does.

I use the 1000. Whatever you do get, don't bother with their Java client
and all that installing. Just get the AP manager software and use it- much
easier.

I guess the encrytpion is worth to whatever feeling of security you get
(knowing that WEP has been broken)
