May I first start by suggesting that you get ahold of the people from the Personal
Telco Project in Portland [ http://www.personaltelco.net/ ] you might also consider
subscribing to their mailing list (see link on home page). There are at least a few
people in your immediate area who would be able to give you some direct help. As for
windows signal meters go try netstumbler [http://www.netstumbler.com/ ] it will also
provide you with a good idea of what other signals are in your L.O.S. so you won't be
causing any undue interference ;)

Subject: [nycwireless] Signal Strength

Hi,

I am interested in setting up the first wireless free net here in Roseburg,
Oregon. My only problem is I am very new to the wireless world and need
help.

Do you know of a good, inexpensive, signal strength meter for point-to-point
antenna alignment. The link I am trying to setup is a little over 3 miles
and I have 24dbi grid antennas on each end. I really want to get the
alignment on straight. I have a laptop with an Enterasys wireless net card
in it and a micro coax pigtail that will connect the card to an antenna or
coax from an antenna. Maybe there is a software signal strength meter
that's Windows based?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Pete
